This project—not yet complete—serves to provide daily Bible texts along with inspirational quotations designed for people who consider themselves Anabaptists—Mennonites and Church of the Brethren members--is a labor of love and faith.  Several years ago I was introduced to the Moravian Daily Texts, which have been written since the 1700s.  They were fantastic, but I personally wanted quotations from the Hymnal Worship Book,  which I was using in my own Sunday worship.  I also thought that if I had written the guide, I would have perhaps have divided the readings a little differently.   The Moravians have a new set of texts each year.  My goal was to simply provide a reusable set of readings—year 1 and year 2—years A and B.

In addition to listing Bible readings for the day, there will usually be quotes from the Hymnal Worship Book, which is used by Brethren and Mennonite congregations across the United States and Canada.   Some of the time, Bible verses and hymns have been edited to make the language more inclusive.  Some verses have notations of importance.  For example, the verse which was read at both of my children’s baptisms will be  noted.

You are welcome to start this series of reading any day of the year.  Just check off the days as you read them.  It is structured to cover the Old Testament in two years, the New Testament each year and the Psalms twice a year.  To simplify the counting of the days, the days will be numbered 1A-365A, with February 29th having its own unnumbered special reading at the end of year one, and then readings/days 1B-365B for the second year.  You can just check the readings as you do them.  Some people have breaks in their reading, others get drawn in and read several texts a day.  Whatever works for you is fine.  The little spot before the numbers of the day is intended to be used to check off the readings as they are done.  You may wish to copy  the guide into your own file,  for your convenience in marking off the days. Below are links to information about the Mennonite Church and the Church of the Brethren.  There is also a link to the Bible online.  Of course there is a link to purchase your own copy of the Hymnal – A Worship Book.  Only hymns which are in the public domain have been used. Since the Moravians provided the inspiration, they have a link also.  Day 1A has information on the publication of the hymnal.

Finally, this Bible study is not sponsored by or authorized by anyone but the author.  My name is Patricia Chaffin Mack.  I am  a member of the St. Paul Mennonite Fellowship, and currently live on an island in Scotland.  It is not my intent to use anything protected by copyright.  If I have accidentally done so, I will gladly delete anything brought to my attention.  This Bible study is dedicated to Virginia Marshall Mutso, who at age nine, many, many years ago in Ocean City, New Jersey, showed me what friendship evangelism is all about.
